Learning in Virtual Worlds Conference

21 Apr 2009 (Full day event)
09:30 - 16:00
University of Sunderland, Sir Tom Cowie Campus , Sunderland

--- CLOSED ---
Brief Details:Virtual worlds are opening up fantastic possibilities for students and lifelong learners and are seen by many as the precursors of 'Web 3D'. Today's flat web is expected to evolve into a more immersive, three-dimensional (3D) and socially interactive on-line experience.

Good News: Why not take advantage of this popular offer: 2 people from the same organisation for only £50! This also applies to anyone who secured an early bird booking.

Information:This conference is primarily intended to give people inspiration and ideas on how virtual worlds can offer inclusive learning and challenge the way we think about teaching. Virtual worlds are being used for business ventures, simulation of dangerous or costly real-life situations, re-construction of historical sites and buildings and much more. They can offer alternative opportunities for engaging learners in both collaborative and individual learning activities.

John Kirriemuir (Virtual Worlds Watch) will provide an overview of many exciting projects and his session will conclude with evidence-based advice on obtaining funding to support academic developments in virtual worlds.

Presentations and workshops throughout the day will include creating training scenarios: the Theatron perfoming arts project; 3-d design and the visual arts; training in a virtual pathology lab; virtual film making; in-world assessment and exploration of pedagogy and other issues. There will be ample opportunities for networking.

Target Audience: Open to managers, practitioners and researchers from universities, FE colleges, and other FE and skills sector providers.

Anyone who has an Avatar, could you please provide us with your Avatar name. This will enable you to take part in the practical workshops.
